The barrel vault tension structure is made of symmetrical curved arches , the tensile membrane or fabric is then attached to the steel frame by either aluminium extrusions or by clamping plates.
The fabric can also either be tensioned by catenary edge cable which gives it a scalloped look or by perimeter fixed edge. The length of the arches can vary as well as the distance between the arches creating a interesting shape. The arch design can also be repetitive which makes the design efficient and it then means more cost effective.
Barrel Vault structures can be used in many applications such as covering walk ways, covering cars. The other applications for the Barrel vaults can be used for restaurants , bars and hotels trying to cover large areas efficiently. These types of structures can also use various types of membranes / fabrics like PVC, PVDF and also HDPE.
