Shade sails as they are commonly know but they are know in the industry as HYPARS ,hyperbolic paraboloids . The shade sail has been derived from the traditions ship sails, tensile shade sails generally have catenary cable edge but are sometimes used with a fixed edge or two.

Tensile shade sails are manufactured in many different ways , they can be attached to posts where two high points opposed each other and opposite to that you attach two lower points , therefore creating a saddle shape or double curvature. The shape helps the membrane or fabric perform as a structure. The shade sails can be made from PVC, PVDF and HDPE or commonly know as shade cloth.

The shade sail structure performs well in covering large areas and is commonly used at outdoor play areas. Shade sails can be made in a triangular shade and as well as squares and rectangles. Shade sails can also be made in a umbrella shape and can be configured in a standard shape or in the cantilever design. The different types of membrane or fabric can be used to perform well to suit different budgets.

Shade sails are used at play areas , resorts outside seating areas , car parks and if installed with a fixed edge can be used as a large awning.
